Information for potential donors
With each passing year the benefits to students of studying abroad are becoming more clear. Even before attending freshman orientation, many Ag Econ students have already decided to study abroad. As a recent NY Times article puts it, "students may not know where they want to go, or what they want to study, but they know they don't want to miss the 'experience of a lifetime'."
The Department of Agricultural Economics is working hard to ensure that students make the right study abroad choices and get the most out of their study abroad experiences. And while the cost of most study abroad programs falls well within the budgets of many students and their families, it is an unfortunate fact that each semester some students give up on their study abroad dreams because they can't afford the cost of airfare or a semester away from part-time work. For many students, $500 or $1000 can make the difference between studying abroad and staying home.
If you are an industry leader, an Ag Econ alumnus, or anyone else interested in learning how you or your organization can financially support study abroad for Ag Econ undergrads, we encourage you to browse this site to learn more about study abroad. Listen to what the students have to say. Think about how much difference your support could mean to a student. Then contact Dr. Sarahelen Thompson, Department Head, at sallyt@purdue.edu, or at:
