Purdue University Dance Marathon (PUDM) will hosts their 9th Marathon this week from 4 p.m. Nov. 17th to 10 a.m. Nov. 18th at the Recreational Sports Center. PUDM has raised almost $1,000,000 for the kids and family at Riley Hospital for Children with a new patient room at the Center Center behind names after PUDM. They started with 100 dancers in 2005 and had over 1100 dancers last November! This year, they have 1788 registered dancers and are the largest student run philanthropic organization on campus! The student ran committee includes a 26 –student Executive Board which includes many students from the Department of Agricultural Economics!
Brittany Haltom (Senior, Sales and Marketing; Dana, IN), PUDM Campus Promotional Executive Co-Chair, is responsible for developing and maintain club and organizational involvement through the entire campus and help with promotions for PUDM and Riley. She commented, “Throughout my time in Purdue University Dance Marathon, I have been able to dance and fight for the children at Riley Hospital for Children. Not only have I met my best friends throughout involvement in this organization but I have been able to challenge myself to become a better person. I have learned not to take life for granted and to be thankful for every second of my life. This organization is filled with the most inspirational and passionate people who have all challenged me to be the best executive board member I can be.” She also added, “This year my personal goal was to raise $1500. After I reached that goal, this past week I decided to raise my goal to 1788, which is $1 to support all of the 1,788 dancers registered for PUDM. I am almost there with five days to go!”
Rick Koehn (Senior, Agribusiness Management; Peotone, IL), PUDM Greek Promotions Committee Member, shared, “PUDM has been one of the most influential involvements I have been on at Purdue University, it is so gratifying to be part of something that allows you to stand up for those that can't. It truly is inspiring when you know there are over 1,000 people right there with you dancing for the same cause!” Lindsey Lewis (Senior, Agribusiness Management; Greenfield, IN) is on the PUDM Moral Committee Member which is responsible for the choreography of dances during the marathon and keeping everyone’s spirits up! She added, “This is my first year participating in Purdue University Dance Marathon. I am so excited to say that I am a part of this great organization. I have heard so much from my friends about the marathon and I can't wait to experience the marathon and the feeling of raising the total at the end of our 18 hours of dancing."
