AGEC undergraduates find victory in recent Purdue Student Government Elections!
Joe Rust, a sophomore in Agribusiness Management, and his running mate, Lexi Hiland, were elected the 2012-13 President and Vice President of Purdue Student Government. They received just over 50% of the votes (2957). Check out their video campaign on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mFujnnKdnE!
Cory Harris, a sophomore in Agricultural Economics and Political Science, and Kalyn Rose, a sophomore in Agricultural Economics, were elected to serve as the College of Agriculture Senators. Cory and Kalyn raised campaign funds from their home town Farm Bureaus, FFA Chapters, and other community organizations. They also worked with a small group of friends and supporters to help with photos, web designed, and large projects like chalking and flyering.
Harris stated, "As a senator, I would like to see more recognition for the College of Agriculture, and to show the rest of the university that the best leadership on campus comes out of our college. I am very happy with how well our campaign has come together and how good of a team Kalyn and I have made in the last month. I feel very excited to meet so many new Friends in the College of Ag, and to see so many people willing to help out and support us. This has been one of my best college experiences so far."
Rose stated, "We really want to help bridge the gap between what's happening within student government and what the students know. I think that many students want their voice to be heard but don't know how to actually get heard. Cory and I want to be that voice for College of Ag students."
