National Oilwell Varco Salespeople Complete Nine-Month Program
NOV photoThe third class of the National Oilwell Varco (NOV)-Purdue Sales Management Program completed their third and final module in mid-August. During their residency, which was held at Purdue’s Dauch Alumni Center, Professor Mike Boehlje facilitated exercises that helped participants think through decision making in uncertain times. Teams also presented the results and key learnings from their nine-month Global Account Project. Six NOV global account vice presidents attended the project presentations. Participants graduated from the program on August 20. NOV CEO Pete Miller attended their graduation.

The fourth class of the NOV-Purdue Sales Management Program will begin in January 2011. The nine-month program is designed to transform NOV employees by sharpening their sales management and leadership skills and capabilities. Instructors help participants prepare for the future by challenging and motivating them to reach sales goals that stretch their current level of performance. Core faculty leading the program include Scott Downey, assistant professor of agricultural economics; Sugato Chakravarty, head of the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing; Paul Wang of Northwestern University; and Stacey Schetzsle from Ball State.

NOV is a worldwide leader in the design, manufacture, and sale of comprehensive systems, components, and services to the upstream oil and gas industry. The center collaborates with the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing to develop and deliver the program.

Center Hosts Brazilian Producers for Syngenta Program

Participants will learn about the U.S. economy, farm policy, and the biofuels industry, then tour Purdue’s agronomy farm, where Ellsworth Christmas, retired professor of agronomy, will discuss the cost of production in the Midwest and the fertility of Midwest soil. Participating faculty include Corinne Alexander, Bruce Erickson, Joan Fulton, Brent Gloy, Allan Gray, and Nicole Olynk.

Don Mario Seeds Brings Key Distributors to Purdue
On August 11, the center hosted a group of Don Mario Seeds’ key distributors from Argentina and Brazil. Center Director Allan Gray gave an overview of the U.S. seed industry and spoke about globalization. Guest speaker Barb McMullan, vice president of products at Illinois Foundation Seeds, spoke about the changing seed industry, addressing changes in seed production, research, and business consolidation.
