Purdue employees can use the CityBus system for free. With everyone looking for ways to cut their costs, it’s a nice little perk.

There is a UPS store in the basement of the Union building. So next time you need to ship something, don’t bother driving anywhere and head across the street.

News from Center for Food and Agricultural Business:

Center Research Associate Maps Innovation Practices of Agribusinesses
After discovering that little to no research had been conducted on innovation as it applies to agribusiness, Maud Roucan-Kane set out to uncover the innovation practices of agribusinesses as part of her dissertation. The results of her research will be available in trade press articles in the coming months and may also be discussed at the National Conference for Agribusiness in November 2010. Read more.

Center Programs Go International
Members of the 2010 Purdue-IU MS-MBA in Food and Agribusiness Management program are preparing for their international residency to Argentina. The 22 students will be accompanied by faculty members Allan Gray and Marshall Martin, as well as program manager Luanna DeMay. Graduate student Gloria Burgert, who will be conducting research for the International Commercial Producer Survey, will also travel with the group.
The group will depart on Sunday, May 23, two days before the 200th anniversary of Argentina’s independence. They will spend the day in Buenos Aires before visiting retail food chains and agribusiness facilities in Sao Patel, Cardales, and Rosario. During the weeklong residency session, they will visit Louis Dreyfuss, Syngenta, and the Board of Trade, making a final stop at the University of Austral to visit with the school’s agribusiness master’s students.
The third class of the National Oilwell Varco (NOV)-Purdue Sales Management program is also preparing for international travel to Singapore in May. The weeklong international trip is part of the nine-month program that is designed to transform NOV employees by sharpening their sales management and leadership skills and capabilities. Instructors will help participants prepare for the future by challenging and motivating them to reach sales goals that stretch their current level of performance. Core faculty leading the program include Scott Downey, assistant professor of agricultural economics; Sugato Chakravarty, head of the Department of Consumer Sciences and Retailing; Paul Wang of Northwestern University; and Stacey Schetzle from Ball State.

People Lining Up to Attend Center Programs
The center’s June programs, Precision Selling and Sales Management and Leadership, have filled to their 35-person capacity, and each program has a waiting list. The seminars’ class size is limited to enhance each participant’s educational experience.
Sales Management and Leadership will have 36 participants from across the United States. The program provides participants the opportunity to interact with one another and industry experts to learn advanced sales management and coaching techniques. Instructors Dave and Scott Downey use case studies to demonstrate the application and use of ideas and strategies generated throughout the program.

Thirty-seven participants representing California, New York, Idaho, and states from across the Midwest are coming to Purdue on June 10-11 for Precision Selling, which was specifically developed to address strategies for working with large producers in the evolving agricultural marketplace. Led by instructors Dave and Scott Downey, agribusiness professionals will explore the complexities of working with large growers and delve into the areas of strategic planning, resource allocation, information analysis, and the use of sophisticated selling tools. The program includes a producer panel that enables the group to get a real-world look into a commercial producer’s specific needs and expectations.
