Congratulations and Names in the News:

Marshall Martin was presented with the 2009 Special Boilermaker Award from the Purdue Alumni Association on September 19, 2009 at the football game at Ross Ade Stadium. The purpose of this Award, which was established in 1981, is to honor and recognize those people who have contributed significantly to the improvement of the quality of life and betterment of the educational experience of a substantial number of students at Purdue University.

Miriam Otoo received an African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) fellowship from the CGIAR Gender and Diversity program. This 2-year program is designed to fast-track the careers of African women delivering pro-poor research and development (R&D). This program is designed around establishing mentoring partnerships, strengthening scientific skills and developing leadership capacity. Dr. Joan Fulton will serve as mentor for Miriam Otoo through this program. Miriam Otoo and Dr. Joan Fulton attended the kick-off Mentoring and Orientation Workshop in Mombasa, Kenya on September 21-25, 2009. Miriam Otoo is to be congratulated on her success in this very competitive process where 60 fellows were selected from 496 applicants.

Thought You Would Like to Know:

Sawyer Sparks, AGEC undergraduate will be on the ABC sitcom, Shark Tank, September 29th.  He is involved with the Entrepreneurship Certificate program at Purdue and was selected to represent the university at the club callout.  Sawyer was then selected by the producers to appear on the television show and will attempt to get the millionaires’ money to market his product.  Stay tuned . . . . .

Dr. Larry DeBoer received a grant from the Indiana Soybean Alliance, for a project called “the cost of community services and the impact of economic development for Indiana counties”.

ICEE Annual Awards Program
September 25, 2009, 10:30 -12:00 PM
Time is drawing near for our Annual Awards program, which will be held this year at the Indiana State House Rotunda and North Atrium. Classroom Exhibits at 10:30 AM followed by the awards presentations at 11:00 AM.  We will recognize 5 outstanding teachers who have excelled in the teaching of economics.  The teachers will also bring school displays and students.  Everyone is welcome!
