Jason Shogren - Lecture Title: “A Rule of One: From Experimental to Paleoeconomics and Back”Biography: Jason Shogren is the Stroock Professor of Natural Resource Conservation and Management, and professor of economics at the University of Wyoming . His research focuses on the behavioral underpinnings of public policy, especially for environmental and natural resources. Before returning to his alma mater, he taught at Iowa State and Yale. By Royal Appointment of the Swedish Court , Shogren will be King Carl XVI Gustafs Professor of Environmental Sciences in 2007-2008. He served as the senior economist for environmental and natural resource policy on the Council of Economic Advisers in the White House, and as a member of Wyoming 's Environmental Quality Council, and the Western Governors Association's Enlibra advisory board. Shogren is the co-editor of Resources and Energy Economics , and was an associate editor of the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management , and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics . Recent publications include Experimental Auctions (Cambridge University Press), Environmental Economics, 2nd ed. (Palgrave), and Painting the White House Green (RFF Press); and essays on risk, conflict, cooperation, valuation, environmental policy, and experimental economics.

Congratulations and Names in the News:
Dr. Sally Thompson has won the Violet Haas award. Established in 1990, the award recognizes individuals, departments, or programs that have made a noteworthy effort on behalf of women, whether in hiring, promotion, education, salary, or generally enhancing a positive professional climate.
Dr. Thompson announced the appointment of Will Masters as Associate Department Head. He will manage the processes for awards, space issues and special projects. Ken Foster continues as Associate Department Head for the graduate program.
Luc Valentin has been hired as an Assistant Professor of Production Economics / Farm Management. He will begin on June 18, 2007.
Priya Bhagowalia is the recipient of the Ludwig Kruhe Doctoral Fellowship for the 2007-08 academic year.
Priya Bhagowalia was awarded the Outstanding Research Paper Presentation Award, at the conference on The Future of Food and Nutrition, Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, Tufts University , Boston , Massachusetts , March 2007

Sales Management and Leadership : June 5-6, 2007
Program Overview: The issue of prioritizing relationships based on the opportunities for profit has broad ramifications for how sales people spend their time and how they build value with customers. Implications for managers leading this process will be the focus of this program. Seminar leaders will use a case study of a peer-organization within the industry to demonstrate the application and use of ideas, strategies and thoughts generated throughout the program.
Precision Selling: Building Relationships with Large Farmers : July 10-11, 2007
Program Overview: The complexity of large farm operations requires a unique approach to understanding how agribusinesses provide value. Large farmers have needs in areas that extend far beyond the basic products, services, and information provided to traditional customers. The needs of these farmers and influencers must be explored in intentional ways in order to discover goals that can be acted on by sellers.

This summer, the Center for Global Trade Analysis will hold three important events here on campus: the GTAP Advisory Board Meeting, the Tenth Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis, and the Fifteenth Annual Short Course in Global Trade Analysis.
GTAP Advisory Board Meeting
The annual GTAP Advisory Board Meeting will be held in the Dauch Alumni Center from June 4-5, 2007. The purpose of this meeting of GTAP Consortium members is to advise the Center on matters of policy, research agenda, and funding.

Tenth Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis
The Tenth Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis will be held in the Stewart Center from June 7-9, 2007. The goal of the conference is to promote the exchange of ideas among economists conducting quantitative analysis of global economic issues.
