AAEA Annual Meeting, Long Beach, California

The College of Agriculture 's Ag Alumni office will host a commencement reception for our graduating undergraduates on Saturday, May 13 in the Ross Ade Pavilion. The attendees to this invitation-only event will be the undergraduates, their families, and some college faculty and staff. The Agricultural Economics department will bid farewell and best wishes to 62 graduating undergraduates this semester. If you are interested in attending this event, please contact Debby Bible or Donya Lester in the Ag Alumni Office 765-494-8593 for specific details. Advance reservations are required to attend this event.

Congratulations and Names in the News:

Five Apex Award recipients were honored April 14 in Purdue University 's Pfendler Hall by the Department of Agricultural Economics during the 32nd annual James C. Snyder Memorial Lecture.

The Apex Award recognizes individuals with outstanding contributions to their field and a strong connection to the department. The lecture featured guest speaker Zoltan Acs, professor at the George Mason School of Public Policy and a research scholar at the Max-Planck Institute for Economics in Jena , Germany . Topics covered emphasized entrepreneurship and innovation.

Apex Award recipients are Norma and Levi Huffman of Lafayette , Ind. ; Phil Kimmel of Louisville ; Vicki McCracken of Pullman , Wash. ; and Filipe Ravara of Lisbon , Portugal . For more information, go to:

Travel, Speeches and Presented Papers:

Otto Doering will be meeting with the National Academies' Committee on the Mississippi River and the Clean Water Act mid-May in Baton Rouge , LA

Kwamena K. Quagrainie will travel on May 8-12 to the USAID Aquaculture CRSP Annual Meeting / World Aquaculture Society Meeting, Florence , Italy .

Angel Lara and Corinne Alexander presented “The Effects of Hurricane Katrina and Rita on Corn, Wheat and Soybean Futures Prices” at the 2006 NCR-134 Conference on Applied Commodity Price Analysis, Forecasting and Market Risk Management, St. Louis Missouri , April 18-19, 2006.

Bob Taylor will travel to Egypt May 11-28 with a MUCIA project to seminar with Egyptian faculty on how to teach farm management.

Wally Tyner and Rhys Dale, April 3-4, presentation on globalization at the Global Pet Food Forum, and April 9-12, at Bio2006 conference, both in Chicago , Il .

Wally Tyner, May 10 th , in Knoxville , TN , meeting of the Sun Grant Consortium on Bio-Fuels, Bio-Products, and Bio-Power. May 12-30, Montpellier , France to participate in an EU project on trade liberalization with Mediterranean countries and June 6-7, Dallas , Texas , the National Corn Growers Corn Utilization conference with a presentation on energy.

March 25 until April 9, Carlos Ludena was in Paraguay , giving training on Input-Output tables to economists from the Central Bank and Ministry of Finance of Paraguay . In June, he will be returning to Paraguay for one month, to provide training in General Equilibrium Models to these same officials. This project is financed by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
