" Preparedness at Home and Abroad "

General Myers led the United States military through four years of tumultuous change on the international and domestic stage, from October 1, 2001 and concluding with his retirement in September 2005. From our engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan to the military's heroic role following Hurricane Katrina, Myers was the principal military advisor to the President, the Defense Secretary, and the National Security Council in his role as Joint Chiefs Chairman. In his presentation, Myers offers analysis on military, security, and preparedness matters at home and abroad.

General Myers is a command pilot with more than 4,100 flying hours. He was a fighter pilot during the Vietnam War, and his career includes operational command and leadership positions in a variety of Air Force and Joint assignments. He was the first Air Force general to serve as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs in two decades. General Myers is a native Kansan and is a graduate of both Kansas State and Auburn Universities.

At the 63 rd annual conference of the Indiana Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Indianapolis on January 18, 2006, Steve Lovejoy was awarded a special service award in recognition of his role in support of the District Visits Program, a system that allows evaluation of local district functioning and provides feedback for improvement.

Raymond Florax has been appointed a member of the Long Range Planning Committee of the Regional Science Association International.

 John Connor was named Panel Member, Center for State Enforcement of Antitrust and Consumer Protection Laws, (nonprofit organization, New York , NY ).  One of five economists selected to respond to requests from State Attorneys General for     expert advice on antitrust matters, January 2006-present.

 

Travel, Speeches and Presented Papers:

Terry Griffin presented "New Methods for On-Farm Trials" as the banquet speaker to the MapShots User Conference, January 19 in Indianapolis .

Terry Griffin to present a paper co-authored with Jess Lowenberg-DeBoer and Raymond Florax entitled “Field-Scale Experimental Designs and Spatial Econometric Methods for Precision Farming: Strip-Trial Designs for Rice Production Decision Making" to the Annual Meetings of the Southern Agricultural Economics Association in Orlando Florida, February 7. 

January 21 st and 22 nd , Otto Doering spoke to the Agricultural committee chairs from legislatures across the US at the National Conference of State Legislators meeting on bio-fuels and on prospects for the coming Farm Bill.

Kwamena Quagrainie will attend the North Central Regional Aquaculture Center Annual Program Planning Meeting, Michigan State University , East Lansing , MI . Feb. 3-5. and on Feb 13-16: Aquaculture America 2006, Las Vegas , Nevada .

 Raymond Florax  presented two papers at the North American Conference of the Regional Science Association (RSAI) in Las Vegas, November 10-12, 2005: * Alla Golub and Raymond J.G.M.
