Congratulations and Names in the News:
Once again the Department of Agricultural Economics will be featuring Ag Econ Professors on their own personal trading cards during the university's Homecoming celebration this year on Saturday, October 15. The featured “players” this year are Hall-of-Famer, Larry Bohl, Pro-Bowlers, Janet Ayres and Otto Doering, Pro-Players, Raymond Florax and Brigitte Waldorf, and Rookie, Roman Keeney. They will all be available to personally autograph their cards in the College of Agriculture 's tent during the Ag Alumni's pre-game brunch, from 8 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. located on Purdue's Memorial Hall. If you are interested in purchasing brunch tickets, the cost is $12.00. They can be purchased by emailing or calling Debby Bible in the Ag Alumni Office at debby@purdue.edu or 494-8593.

Natural Resources Leadership Development Institute (NRLDI) will begin its third class on September 28-30 with 26 participants from various natural resource agencies and organizations. The program was developed by Janet Ayres in collaboration with Bill Hoover in FNR. It focuses on collaboration, communication and conflict management skills and processes to deal with controversial issues. The three, three-day basic program is held during the fall of each year. Six NRCS staff from Illinois are participating in the program this year. Follow-up programs are held in the spring and fall at various sites around the state to focus on specific controversial issues and to bring participants from all previous classes together.

October 19/20: Econ Camp at Camp Tecumseh: Co-sponsored by the Department of Agricultural Economics, Indiana Department of Education, the George and Frances Ball Foundation, and the Indiana Council for Economic Education, this annual opportunity for high school teachers of economics to share best teaching practices, review and reinforce an understanding of economic concepts as identified in the state Economics Standards and be encouraged to promote economics as an important part of the curriculum in the high school.

Travel, Speeches and Presented Papers:
Wally Tyner taught a course on "International Trade, Trade Negotiations, and Policy" in the joint Purdue/University of Iowa MBA program in China September 26 - October 6.
Sally Thompson, Joan Fulton and Jess Lowenberg-DeBoer attended the conference, “Regional Partnership to Enhance Bean/Cowpea Consumption and Production in Africa and Latin America .” The conference was organized by the Bean/Cowpea Collaborative Research Support Program (CRSP) and the Institut Senegalais de Recherches Agricoles (ISRA), Sept. 12-16, 2005 in Dakar Senegal . Sally Thompson is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bean/Cowpea CRSP. Dr. Thompson participated in a workshop organized by Joan Fulton and Jess Lowenberg-Deboer as part of their CRSP research program.
Janet Ayres presented a selected paper at an international conference in Brisbane Australia , August 14-17. The conference theme was Engaging Communities , putting citizens and communities in the heart of their own governance. The conference was sponsored by the United Nations and Queensland State Government. Approximately 2300 people attended the conference. Janet's paper was titled “Building Trust, Leadership and Power for Action in Rural Communities.”
