Brazil 's President Honors Ed Schuh:

G. Edward Schuh, Foundation Program Officer in Brazil in the 1970s , was recently presented with Brazil 's Order of Scientific Merit-Gra Cruz. This, the nation's highest scientific award, is the equivalent of the U.S   President's Medal of Freedom. It is the same high award that was bestowed on Oscar Neimeyer , the architect who designed Brazilia. Schuh is now Regents Professor and former Dean of the Institute of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota .

One of the stars in the Foundation's agricultural network in the 1970s was G. Edward Schuh. Throughout his remarkably productive career he has maintained close professional ties to Brazil . Ed first became involved in Brazil as a visiting professor of agricultural economics at the University of Vicosa in 1963. He was then a young assistant professor at Purdue. No doubt his career-long association with research, education, and public policy in Brazil was influenced by the fact that a young woman in one of his Vicosa classes became Mrs. Schuh. The medallion was presented to Ed by the President of Brazil in ceremonies at Brazilia on April 26, 2005.
