Congratulations and Names in the News:
As he approaches his June 30 th retirement, Dr. Joe Uhl was recognized for his 37 years of service to the department. Dr. Sally Thompson began the recognition with an account of Dr. Uhl's accomplishments and service to Purdue University. Three May 2004 graduates shared their thoughts on his contributions to the undergraduate program through students' eyes. As Joe's teaching assistant, Beth Byrd, commented on his impact on students in the classroom. Beth Rhoads, a 2004 NAMA Team Member, discussed the foundation Dr. Uhl laid for the future of NAMA at Purdue, and Kylene Nidlinger spoke on his dedication to the Honors Program.
Dr. Christine Wilson thanked Joe for serving as her mentor with the NAMA Team. Otto Doering, Larry Bohl and Wally Tyner added additional comments on Joe's qualities as a colleague; his contributions to the undergraduate program as an academic advisor, club and team advisor, and teacher; and his role in developing one of the best undergraduate marketing programs in the nation.
The Purdue University chapter of Gamma Sigma Delta authorizes the granting of annual Awards of Merit to outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to Agriculture, Consumer and Family Sciences, and Veterinary Medicine. Awards can be for contributions in research, teaching, extension, service, or administration. One of the 2004 awards was presented to Dr. Kenneth Foster, Agriculture – Research and Outreach.

Annual Conference on Global Trade Analysis will be held in Washington D.C, June 17-19. Speakers include Francois Bourguignon, The World Bank, Elhanan Helpman, Harvard University and Tel Aviv University, Carlo Carraro, University of Venice, Daniel Esty, Yale University Tony Venables, London School of Economics, and David Hummels, School of Management, Purdue University. The conference will be preceded by the GTAP board meeting, June 14-16.
The Center for Global Trade Analysis co-sponsored a Workshop on Integrated Assessment of Climate Change Policy along with the Energy Modeling Forum and the US EPA, May 24-26 in Washington, D.C. Huey-Lin Lee and Thomas Hertel made presentations at this workshop.
The Center for Global Trade analysis held a Short course in Global Trade Analysis, Buenos Aires , May 8-13. The course was sponsored by the Inter-American Development Bank and the participants included two dozen trade policy advisors from most of the South American countries.

Graduate Student News:
Todd Sheetz has been elected president of the Montgomery County chapter of Habitat for Humanity.
Amanda Allbritton has taken a job with Volunteers in Asia, Hanoi Agricultural University , Center for Agricultural Research and Ecological Studies (CARES). She will teach agricultural economics/English and do field research in Hanoi, Vietnam.
Jason Roller accepted an economist position the Market Services branch of the USDA – Ag Marketing Service.
Travel, Speeches and Presented Papers:
Roman Keeney traveled to Washington, D.C. to present the seminar titled “GTAP-AGR: A Framework for Assessing Impacts of Multilateral Agricultural Liberalization” at USDA-ERS.
Terrie Walmsley will be presenting research undertaken by Vitaly Kharitonov and herself on the Impact of Russia's Accession to the WTO at an OECD sponsored workshop in Kazakhstan, June 3-4.
Wally Tyner presented a plenary paper at the Moroccan Association of Agricultural Economics annual conference, May 20-21, in Rabat, Morocco.
