Congratulations and Names in the News:

Jay Akridge was awarded the U.S. department of Agriculture Food and Ag Science Excellence in Teaching Award.

Jeff Greiner is the new Web Communications Coordinator for the Department. His focus will be enhancing the Department's website and it's capabilities for teaching, outreach, and engagement.

Terrie Walmsley was hired as GTAP Associate Director and Visiting Assistant Professor. Terrie will be coordinating the GTAP short courses, providing instruction for the short courses, working with and contributing to the GTAP database, working with graduate students and engaging in new research. Previously, she taught international trade and finance courses at the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom, and was an instructor in the GTAP short course.

Ag Alumni Homecoming Reunion – Saturday, October 4th, 11 am to 2:30 pm.

Homecoming at Purdue is bigger and better than ever, and the School of Agriculture and the Ag Alumni Association invite you to join us at our reunion tent for food and fellowship before the game --- Purdue vs. Illinois. Agriculture’s tens will be located on the north end of Memorial Mall, convenient to parking in the Marsteller Garage as well as to the other events and activities, and an easy walk to the stadium. Otto Doering spent the week of September 15th in Washington DC shepherding the ALPS group of 27 agribusiness managers through a learning experience on the policy process. They all survived the hurricane, which was anticlimactic in DC. Purdue alums: Barbara Chattin and Bill Hoagland as well as Marshall Martin, Phil Paarlberg and Jay Akridge were also involved in the program.

Frank Dooley moderated a panel at the 21st Century Logistics Symposium in Indianapolis on September 16th to discuss Indiana's future in the world of logistics.

Maria Marshall will present the following in November:

November 8 & 16, 2003, a 2-day short course, "ComoEmpezar un Negocio en Clinton County" (How to Start a Business in Clinton County), Clinton County Resource Center, Frankfort, IN. This is a 2-day business basics course in Spanish.

November 21, 2003, 1-day workshop, 'Starting a Food Business in Indiana" Madison Chamber of Commerce/SBDC Office, Madison, IN.

Edna Loehman will be on sabbatic leave starting September 2003 at the University of Colorado working on water issues with Charles Howe at the Institute of Behavioral Science.

October 27-31, 2003: Strategic Agra Marketing (SAM)
SAM focuses on integrated marketing strategy. It is a practical, hands-on look at market segmentation, product and pricing strategies, distribution, people, and marketing communication decisions in order to create new marketing approaches in the agricultural marketplace. November 19-20, 2003: National Conference for Agribusiness - Serving Commercial Producers: Meeting Needs, Adding Value
The National Conference for Agribusiness will feature the findings of the 2003 Large Commercial Producer Project which is a survey conducted every five years among commercial producers to provide managers of input supply and service companies with information about commercial producers' farm businesses and the fundamental attitudes that underlie their buying behavior. This two-day session features a smorgasbord of Purdue experts on the subject as well as keynote speakers from inside and outside industry. Maria Marshall presented "Marketing New Ventures" to the Indiana Aquaculture Association on September 27, 2003 at the Marion County Extension Office, Indianapolis, IN.

Megan Garrett and Kevin McNamara made a presentation on the size, structure, and growth potential of the Indiana equine industry at the Cargill animal Nutrition Equine College held at Purdue on September 17-18, 2003.
