Congratulations and Names in the News:
Wally Tyner is on sabbatical leave in Montpellier, France,
September 1, 2002 – June 30, 2003.
The Center for Global Trade Analysis held the Tenth Annual
Short Course in Global Trade Analysis at the University
of Sheffield, Sheffield, UK, August 4th through August 10th.
There were 25 participants in attendance representing 13
countries.
Jess Lowenberg-DeBoer was invited by the U.S. State Department
to make a series of presentations in West Africa on “Sustainable
Development and Sustainable Agriculture” in preparation
for the World Sustainable Development summit in Johannesburg.
He spoke in Nouakchott, Mauritania, on August 12th; in Bamako,
Mali on August 15th and in Niamey, Niger on August. 20th.

Rainer Kuhl, Professor Agricultural Economics from Geissen
University, Giessen, Germany will visit September 8-30,
2002. Dr. Kuhl’s primary interests are in cooperatives
and supply chain management.

September 10-13, 2002 Marketing Planning for Field Marketers
An annual program that recognizes the role of the field
salesperson and sales manager in tailoring company marketing
plans to unique needs of local and regional markets. Participants
put field marketing concepts to work in their organizations.
October 14-18, 2002 Strategic Agri Marketing
Agri Marketing focuses on integrated marketing strategy.
It is a practical, hands-on look at market segmentation,
product and pricing strategies, distribution, people, and
marketing communications decisions necessary for creating
a new marketing approach in the agricultural marketplace.

Travel, Speeches and Presented Papers
Tom Hertel, Channing Arndt, Judy Conner, Ken Itakura, and
Melanie Bacou of the Center for Global Trade Analysis (GTAP)
staff traveled to Taipei, Taiwan to hold the Annual GTAP
Advisory Board Meeting on June 2 and 3. They then participated
in the Fifth Annual Conference on Global Economic Analysis,
“Sustainable Development and the General Equilibrium
Approach,” June 5-7, 2002. The Conference, organized
by the Center for Sustainable Development at the National
Tsing Hua University in conjunction with the Center for
Global Trade Analysis, at Purdue University was hosted by
Professor Chung-Huang Huang of National Tsing Hua University,
Hsing Chu, Taiwan.
John Connor gave the keynote address at the annual meeting
of the Organization for Competitive Markets in Omaha, NE
on August 16th, entitled “The Globalization of Corporate
Crime: Food and Agricultural Cartels of the 1990s”.
