Research Organization). Amare Belay is with the Tigray Agricultural
Research Institute. They are working with John Sanders on
a report on dryland technologies in the Horn countries of
Africa and with Nega Wubeneh on this thesis on the diffusion

Steve Lovejoy's multi-media presentation and discussion
of "Integration of Science and Values in Watershed
Management" in Traverse City, Michigan, was part of
a special joint conference, July 23-26, on Economic Considerations
in Water Management. "Science is helpful," he
said, "but scientists need to assist citizens and organizations
to make better decisions about watersheds. These include
land use, sedimentation reduction, aquatic and riparian
habitats, filterstrips, and costs to landowners and the
public." US and Canadian concerns were represented
by four organizations: Universities Council on Water Resources,
Environment and Water Institute of ASCE, US Army Corps of
Engineers Institute for Water Resources, and National Ground
Water Association. Co-sponsors of the joint conference were
the International Joint Commission and the International
Boundary and Water Commission.
