Congratulations and Names in the News:
Dr. Wallace Tyner announced his resignation as Department
Head from the Department. A search committee has been announced
and a nationwide search for his placement will be launched.
Dr. Tyner will continue his duties as Department Head until
a replacement has been named and will remain at Purdue as
Professor.

The second edition of Life, Love and Economics, the text/novel
by Gavin Sinclair, Robert W. Taylor, Dee E. Cottrell and
Larry DeBoer came off the press just in time for the fall
semester. The first edition made the front page of the Wall
Street Journal and was the basis of articles in Newsweek
and The Chronicle of Higher Education. Improvements include
great new chapters by Larry Dauber and web sites substituting
for data tables.
Ag Econ launches a new Study Abroad web site:

The start of the fall semester was marked by the introduction
of a new destination on the world wide web. The site, designed
by Associate Professor Gerald Shivery and department web
specialist Matt Mooney, aims to promote and facilitate study
abroad among Ag Econ undergraduates. The site includes basic
information on study abroad, video clips from students who
have recently studied abroad, and a 'location finder' designed
to help students locate study abroad programs that match
their interests. The site, which is located at http://www.agecon.purdue.edu/study_abroad
also contains special information for parents of study abroad
students as well as information for individuals and institutions
interested in sponsoring undergraduate study aborad.
The Indiana Council for Economic Education will host its
Annual Awards for Excellence Program in Carmel, Indiana,
on September 21. At that time, ICES will recognize outstanding
teachers, students, and community members who have excelled
in the cause of economic literacy. Please call the ICES

Travel, Speeches and Presented Papers
Janet Ayres convened faculty in the North Central region
who work in the area of leadership development. They met
July 18-19 at the Humphrey Institute, Center for Reflective
Leadership to share teaching and extension program materials
and ideas. Following this meeting, she participated in the
annual meeting of the Association of Leadership Educators
in Minneapolis.
Ken Foster (AGE), Bud Harmon (AN.) and Brian Richer (ANC.)
spent most of August in China teaching courses in Business
Management and Production Efficiency for High Performance
Swine Production.
Mike Collura, Instructional Technology Specialist (EMBA)
and Matt Mooney, World Wide Web Specialist presented at
the 17th Annual Conference on Distance Teaching & Learning
in Madison, Wisconsin, August 8-10. They presented a workshop
on "Grow Your Own: Web-based course management the
way you want it." They also presented a session "Teaching
Online Outside the Box: Developing your own course management
system."
