Congratulations and Names in the News:

Nega Wubeneh for receiving the "2001 Neville Clarke Award for Outstanding Teamwork" for his contribution to the ILRI-IFPRI Project: Policies for Sustainable Land Management in the Highlands of east Africa. Dr. Neville Clarke was the first Chair of the ILRI Board of Trustees serving the Institute in that capacity from 1994-1999. The Board of Trustees decided to recognize his contribution to ILRI with this annual award for Outstanding Teamwork.

Congratulations to Jeff Reimer for being awarded a travel grant to the AAEA meetings in August. This travel grant is sponsored by the Purdue Graduate Student Association.

Congratulations to Paul Preckel who received thee 2001 Neville Clarke Award from the International Livestock Research Institute as a member of the team working on the project entitled "Policies for Sustainable Land Management in the Highlands of East Africa."

Indiana Council for Economic Education (ICEE) Executive Director, Harlan Day, will be traveling to Dubrovnik, Croatia, in May to take part in an international conference linking economic educators from the United States and Eastern Europe. The conference is part of an ongoing effort over the years by the National Council on Economic Education (NCEE) to develop Councils and Centers of Economic Education in many of the transition countries of eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union. Many economic educators from the United States, including those in the ICEE network, continue to be instrumental in this significant effort.

Each summer the ICEE sponsors intensive, graduate-credit workshops for K-12 teachers. These workshops cover a variety of economic topics and take place throughout Indiana at the ICEE's University Centers. For a listing, go to:

Cochran Fellowship Program provides short-term training for about 800 international agriculturalists from 70+ middle-income and emerging market countries each year. They are seeking Program Training Assistants - US citizens with an MS degree.

Center for Food and Agricultural Business

The Center for Food and Agricultural Business hosted a 'Foods of Indiana' Trade Show which brought together 50 supermarket chain store managers from China with food companies located in the state of Indiana. The goal of the event was to provide opportunities for Indiana companies to export more of their high-value food products onto the supermarket shelves of China.

Hertel, Thomas W., 2001. "Economic Analysis of Trade and Poverty" Plenary paper presented to the Development Economics Studies Group Conference, Nottingham, U.K., April 5, 2001.

Ken Foster and Otto Doering spoke on CSPAN in early April at the National Press Club concerning the impacts of Foot and Mouth Disease.

John Connor presented the address "Global Price Fixing in Food and Feed Ingredients" to the Canadian Agricultural Economics Society. The meeting was held in Toronto, April 26-28, 2001.
