Congratulations and Names in the News:
Christine Welch Stair was received the Outstanding Master's
Thesis for 2000 award for her thesis "An Economic Analysis
of Alternative Methods of Corn Rootworm Control: Soil Insecticides,
Areawide Pest Management and Transgenics." Marshall
Martin served as Major Professor.
Michael E. Johnson received the award for Outstanding Ph.D.
Dissertation 2000. His dissertation was titled "Adoption
and Spillover of New Cassava Technologies in West Africa:
Econometric Models and Heterogenous Agent Programming."
William Masters was his major professor.
ICEE News: The Indiana Council for Economic Education has
hired a new Assistant Director, Beverly Brewer. Beverly's
primary duties will be development and public relations.
Beverly has significant experience in non-profit organizations
and fund-raising, and will greatly strengthen the ICEE's
mission of economic literacy for K-12 students and teachers.

On the "Producer Production Act..." which is gaining
instant national attention, partly because the same article
was also in the AmAgLaw Assn. January Ag Law Update.
Construction and Remodeling on Campus:
The Aquatics Center is scheduled to open late June 2001.
The center will have a corridor connection to the Recreation
Sports Center (RCS). A competition pool and diving well
will be used for Health Kinesiology & Leisure Studies
courses, Intercollegiate Athletics competition, and RCS
leisure and exercise activities.
The current renovation of WBAA-AM/FM radio stations in
the Elliott Hall of Music will create new studios with state-of-the-art
sound isolation, noise and vibration control, and acoustics.
HSSE Library renovation will begin this spring. The project
calls for reworking 60,000 square feet of the library into
a contemporary electronic information center. Renovations
will include faculty offices, workrooms, study areas, and
collection areas. The project also will upgrade the library's
computer and electronic reference system.
The Union Recreation Center project should be completed
by August 2001. This project will consolidate the billiard
and bowling areas and will create a multi functional recreation
center in the current bowling center. The existing billiards
room will be converted for other uses.
Villa Pizza, a full service Italian Restaurant in the Union,
should be open by July 2001. It will be located on located
on the first level where the two main corridors intersect
at the SW corner of the building.
Design drawings have been developed for two new facilities.
Jerry S. Rawls Hall (RAWL) - the Krannert facilities addition
will be constructed just east of the existing Krannert Building
and the Department of Visual & Performing Arts will
have a new facility just south of the Marsteller Street
Garage.
A proposal has been developed to add an addition to the
south and renovate the existing Agricultural Hall (formerly
Entomology Hall) in an effort to meet the space needs of
the Department of Forestry & Natural Resources.

Marshall Martin presented "The Economics of Agricultural
Genomics: An Overview" at the Third Annual Agricultural
Genomics Conference, January 29-31, San Francisco, CA.
Allan Gray and Antonio Torres presented a seminar on the
Internet to the Farm Management Corporation, Champaign-Urbana,
Illinois on February 21, 2001.
