Farm Management
Purdue is well-known for its research, teaching, and extension in the areas of Farm Management, production economics, agricultural finance, and public policies related to production agriculture. The emphasis is on useful application of research results. The interdisciplinary nature of the department's effort provides an excellent environment for graduate education. Extension activities include direct contact with farmers, agricultural credit personnel, income tax practitioners, rural appraisers, and farm managers. Campus meetings and workshops provide many opportunities for graduate student involvement. Many research developments, such as work on expert systems, and other computer-aided decision models, have been incorporated into extension programming and teaching.
The Farm Management option is designed to prepare students for careers in farming, professional farm management, agricultural finance, cooperative extension, and management of farm related businesses. Students with interest in academic careers in farm management, (teaching, research and extension with a university), USDA, or other institutions should plan on obtaining a Ph.D. degree in addition to the M.S. degree.
