Computational Science and Engineering

The Computational Science and Engineering (CS&E) Program at Purdue provides students with the opportunity to take a concentration of courses focused on scientific computing issues in addition to their M.S. and Ph.D. program in Agricultural Economics.  A student who pursues this specialization learns to more thoroughly integrate Agricultural Economics with computation, and is able to make original contributions in both areas.

M.S. and Ph.D. graduates are expected to have a unique combination of skills that will be of great value to interdisciplinary research teams.  The CS&E program fosters interaction between faculty and students from the various departments through colloquia and team research efforts.

Upon completion of the program, the Department of Agricultural Economics awards the degree with the designation "Specialization in Computational Science" or "Specialization in Computational Engineering" indicated in the transcript.  The program is administered by the CS&E Graduate Committee with representation by the Department of Agricultural Economics.  Students are expected to have a strong interest in computation and its application to applied problems in economics.  Students that do not have both the interdisciplinary breadth and depth needed for the CS&E Program may take some background undergraduate courses to remedy their deficiencies while taking graduate courses.  An introductory course in CS&E is offered that is specifically designed to allow students who did major in computer science or computer engineering to quickly learn the key concepts from upper level undergraduate computer science courses.
