National Guard Afghan Agriculture Development Team Training Program

boy-oxen3The Purdue University Agriculture Development Team (ADT) training program was developed to prepare National Guard ADT members for deployment to Afghanistan. ADT members will work as agriculture extension/outreach agents in rural Afghanistan. The Purdue program is designed to provide basic information on agriculture topics, location specific information on Afghan agriculture, human nutrition, Afghan culture and agriculture systems, and other material to prepare the Guard members for deployment. ADT members also have the opportunity to interact on junior Afghan agriculture faculty members studying for graduate degrees at Purdue.

The Purdue University USAID Advancing Afghan Agriculture Alliance (A4) is an agricultural education capacity development project. The project, designed to rebuild agricultural education in Afghanistan, has two primary thrusts: capacity building for Afghan faculty members (MS degree education in India and the US and various out-of-country and in-country educational programs); and development of extra- and co-curriculum programs/activities to teach agriculture students allied, marketable skills.

Additionally Purdue University has 12 junior Afghan faculty studying for MS degrees under the Purdue/USAID Afghan Merit Scholar (AMS) Program. The AMS fellows will help provide leadership for building academic programs when they complete their studies and return to Afghanistan.

Purdue faculty, several of whom have been to Afghanistan, worked with the AMS fellows as they developed educational modules for the ADT training to develop educational materials that delivered content specifically developed to meet the needs of the provinces where ADTs are being deployed.

The copy of the training program is presented below with links to each teaching team member’s web page.
