BOB F. JONES (1926-)
Bob F. Jones was a recognized leader in public policy education. Through state
extension meetings and regional and national committees, he developed and delivered
educational programs on agricultural and trade policy. For 26 years he taught
a senior/master's level course in agricultural trade. He also taught a senior/master
s level course in agricultural policy for nine years and a graduate level agricultural
policy course for 15 years. He supervised graduate students in agricultural
policy and international trade.
Professor Jones had a broad world view of agricultural, trade, and international
development policy. He and his family spent two years (1967-69) on the Purdue-Brazil
project at the Federal University of Vicosa, where he taught and served as
Chief of Party. He participated in several international short-term projects
to Iran, India, Taiwan, Japan, Portugal, Liberia, Hungary, Uzbekistan, and
Tajikistan.
Professor Jones offered leadership to Indiana in several capacities. He was
staff director for the Governor's Select Committee for Primary and Secondary
Education (1982-1984), policy analyst for the Indiana Agricultural Council
(1987-1988), Assistant Director of Extension and Program Leader for Community
Development and Public Policy (1985-1996), and Executive Secretary for the
Farm Policy Study Group (1973-1996). He also served on the North Central
and National Public Policy Education Committees. He was a member of the
Editorial
Council of the American Journal of Agricultural Economics (1981-1983) and
of the Purdue University Senate (1978-1981).
Dr. Jones was born and raised in Kansas. He farmed for 11 years and completed
two years of military service before attending Kansas State University where
he obtained his B.S. and M.S. degrees. He earned his Ph.D. from Michigan
State University. He joined the faculty in the Department of Agricultural
Economics
in 1964. He and his wife, Mary Lou, are the parents of Elizabeth, Marsha,
and Franklin.
