OTTO G. JOHANNINGSMEIR (1898-1938)
During his tenure, Professor Johanningsmeir gave resourceful leadership to
the expanding Farm Management Extension Program. He contributed greatly to
the whole farm business analysis work and to the promotion of farm record keeping
--the project grew from about 150 cooperators in 1928 to over 900 in 1938. "Jo",
as he was known, was recognized for his industry and ability. His natural endowment
of balance, good judgment, friendliness and good will eminently qualified him
for his work. "Jo" joined the Purdue staff in Farm Management Extension
in 1928 and was soon placed in charge of this effort. Prior to joining the
staff, he was a Vocational Agriculture Teacher for two years and a grad-uate
assistant. He fell victim to a malignant sinus growth which he faced with unfailing
cheerfulness and courage. The rarity of his affliction brought national medical
attention. He was active in his church and in the several social and professional
organizations to which he belonged. B.S.A. - Purdue, 1925; M.S.A. - Purdue,
1928.
