EDWARD E. CARSON (1928-)
Professor Carson is best characterized as an "all-around" farm management
specialist. His areas of expertise include farm business planning and computer
applications to farm management. In addition he conducted programs in outlook,
farm records, farm financial strategies, daily economics, irrigation economics
and the economics of small farms. Dr. Carson began his farm management career
in 1955 while still a graduate student at Purdue University, where he spent
his entire professional career. He spent his sabbatic leave at the University
of California, Berkeley, in 1969 where he extended his computer skills. Ed's
talent for identifying farm management program needs, coupled with his willingness
to do whatever needed to be done made him a most valuable staff member.
Ed pioneered the development of the computerized farm planning budget which
has gained wide acceptance and was the basis for the "transition" budget
developed at Missouri. He received the Purdue Extension Specialist's Outstanding
Specialist Senior Award in 1972. In 1974 he led a People-to-People Goodwill
team to Europe and the U.S.S.R. He plans to "move to a less snowy area
and keep busy."
