Professor Taylor teaches undergraduates macroeconomics and farm management. He offers a graduate seminar on teaching agricultural economics. He has taught at Purdue since 1962 and has had over 50,000 students.
As a part of his work with Purdue he has lived in Brazil and has taught farm management in Portuguese in both Brazil and Portugal. He is the faculty advisor for thirty undergraduate students, working with them as potential students through job placement and as a mentor on the job.
His extension thrust emphasizes family farm business arrangements in the general farm management context. Prof. Taylor received outstanding teacher awards from Purdue's School of Agriculture (1970, 1976), the Purdue Student Body (1970), Purdue University (1980), the American Agricultural Economics Association (1970, 1980). He received the Purdue Outstanding Counselor Award in 1985, the Hovde Award of Excellence in Educational Service to Rural People of Indiana in 1991, was named to Purdue's Book of Great Teachers in 1999, and was named a Special Boilermaker by the Purdue Alumni Association in 2001.
He and his wife, Anna, have four children and eleven grandchildren.
