Dr. Joan Fulton joined the Purdue Agricultural Economics faculty in July 1997. Dr. Fulton teaches a senior level undergraduate marketing course as well as a graduate level course in marketing and organizational structure targeted to MS students. Dr. Fulton is active in Extension programming. She is co-chair of Purdue’s New Ventures Team and co-director of Purdue’s Agricultural Innovation and Commercialization Center (AICC) where she is active in the development and delivery of programs to assist individuals and groups evaluate new business opportunities.
Dr. Fulton’s research focuses on problems related to marketing and business structure both in the United States and internationally. She is a principal investigator for the Bean Cowpea CRSP project working in Eastern and Southern Africa on the marketing of common beans and in West Africa on the marketing of cowpeas. In West Africa she is also the principal investigator for the Women in Development project of the Bean Cowpea CRSP where she is examining factors that contribute to successful entrepreneurship for women selling street food, made from cowpeas, in West Africa.
Dr. Fulton completed her Ph.D. work at the University of Minnesota where she explored the impact of centralized versus decentralized decision-making authority in grain marketing cooperatives. She was an assistant professor at Colorado State University from 1993-1997 where she worked in marketing and agribusiness.
In addition, Dr. Fulton is active in the development and delivery of programs through the Center for Food and Agricultural Business.
