Curriculum Vitae

Gerry Harrison's Extension education, teaching and research focuses on farm management, estate planning, federal tax law and numerous legal topics with emphasis on Indiana agriculture. He has authored or co-authored numerous articles, papers, and publications for 37 years at Purdue. He has served for 10 years as a resource specialist on the Purdue Land Use Team. The Land Use Team won the Purdue Ag Dean’s Ag Team Award in 2002.

His program is of daily assistance to farmers, landowners, lawyers and accountants in Indiana and beyond for: farm management, estate planning, business organization and many other legal and tax topics such as farmland leasing, land conservation and mineral leasing.

He presented 11 seminars on Estate and Family Farm Business Transfer Planning in Indiana from Angola to Poseyville -- late fall of 2007 to March of 2008 -- Gerry’s most extensive offerings of this subject matter in a short period of time since the 1970’s. This seminar serves participants not only among farmers and landowners but is continuing education for lawyers and Indiana accountants and insurance producers.

Selected publications by Gerry are under “Land Use” and “Legal Affairs” at:
http://www.ces.purdue.edu/extmedia/agecon.htm.

He teaches Ag EC-455, Ag Law, with a Web page at: http://www.agecon.purdue.edu/academic/agec455/. At this site additional papers are posted by entering “papers and publications”.

Besides Ag Law, which Gerry initiated in 1981, he also developed “federal income tax law” as a Dept. of Ag Econ course in 1983 and taught the course for 13 years. He also taught “Estate Planning” to undergraduates at Purdue, a course initiated in Ag Econ a retired professor, Robert Suter. To the benefit of Ag Econ, both the Tax Law and Estate Planning courses became requirements for Consumer and Family Science students who are majoring in Financial Planning.

Gerry is the editor and co-founder (1973) of what is now the Purdue Agricultural Economics Report--available currently and archived at: http://www.agecon.purdue.edu/extension/pubs/paer/.

Gerry is available to assist weekdays 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. toll free 1-888-398-4636, ask for Gerry at Ext. 44216.
