This table shows motor vehicle excise tax revenue by county for calendar year 2001.  Also shown are the state distributions from the lottery and gaming surplus fund, the total of the excise tax and the distributions, and the amount that local governments would have received had the pre-1996 excise tax rates been used in 2000.  The tax cut to taxpayers is the difference between what taxpayers would have paid under the pre-1996 rates, and what they actually paid in excise tax in 2001.  The revenue loss to local governments is the difference between what local governments would have received under the pre-1996 rates, and the sum of excise tax collections and state distribution actually received.
