Program Overview
Recent increases in farmland values have generated substantial discussion and debate. The Kansas City and Chicago Federal Reserve Banks recently reported strong increases in farmland values.  For instance, the Chicago report shows Iowa and Indiana farmland increasing at 13 and 11 percent respectively. Sheila Bair, chair of the FDIC recently warned that a farmland bubble poses a potential threat to agricultural banks and investors. Secretary of Agriculture Vilsack downplayed in a Wall Street Journal report suggestions of a bubble noting that debt relative to asset levels remain low. We have developed several resources to help people understand and interpret the current level of farmland values.

New: Dr. Gloy recently gave a presentation on U.S. farmland values at Bonnefield Financial's Canadian Farmland and Agribusiness Investment Seminar. You can view it below
