Submit an abstract

If you are a graduate student in this field, we encourage you to submit a one paragraph abstract by February 27, 2009 to Laura Atuesta (latuest2@illinois.edu) and Kate Nesse (klnesse2@illinois.edu). We encourage students in all stages of research to present. Please indicate in your email whether your abstract is,

  1. Completed research: includes conference-ready material representative of a working or published manuscript,
  2. On-going research: includes preliminary results of a defined problem statement, or
  3. Research announcements: defined research question or hypothesis and some supporting references, where the goal is to receive useful input at a very early stage of your research.

Students are encouraged to submit a proposal in any one of the following areas: income inequality, land use, urban sprawl, environmental amenities, climate change, health and nutrition, epidemiology and public health impacts, population aging, migration, agglomeration and urban capital. Methodological contributions addressing spatial data analysis, GIS, spatial econometrics, discrete-choice modeling or panel data econometrics are welcome as well. These lists are not intended to exclude other relevant topics. However, we reserve the right to limit the number of abstracts accepted based on the relevance that they have to the field of regional, population and health economics.

Submissions should not exceed one page, and be single-spaced using 12-point font size (though a paragraph or two is certainly sufficient). Submissions should include authors, presenter and topic area or key words, and identify the desired type of presentation (1, 2, or 3 above) for organization purposes. Post-docs are invited to submit as well. Presentations will be grouped by content and research stage.

We are working to make this meeting as affordable and inviting as possible. The cost of attendance is $35, which includes lunch and dinner on Friday, and continental breakfast on Saturday morning. The registration form and fee should be sent by mail no later to March 31, 2009. There are a number of affordable hotels located near campus in Urbana and Champaign. In addition, a number of graduate students in Agricultural and Consumer Economics and Urban and Regional Planning departments have offered to provide a bed or couch to help keep your stay affordable. If you are interested in staying with a student, please let us know on the registration form.
